Blender To Substance Painter
Hi guys, new to substance painter but I have been fighting all day trying to set it up to work properly with blender, and I have ran out of ideas. I have a lot of problems, but my MAIN problem right now is that I can't get different layers for the multiple different materials when importing. Is it worth learning Substance Painter/Designer, or can Blender do pretty much the same, e.g. Using the PBR Uber Shader or Jason’s Simple PBR? I have a subscription to Substance Live, but haven’t been able to figure out the GUI and workflowmaybe I need to give it more time to sink in, but would rather do everything in Blender if it can do virtually as well (?).

- Substance Painter and Substance Designer are excellent programs that are specifically made for texturing. Designer allows you to build complex procedural materials, and Painter allows you to apply those materials to your mesh using brushes, masks, and even particle simulations. In this course, I’ll walk you through the workflow of how to best use them alongside Blender.
In this tutorial Alex shows you how to go from Substance Painter and importing those textures into Blender.
For following along make sure you have the Node Wrangler addon installed – which is delivered as a default addon with Blender >= 2.8.
Export Blender To Substance
In the tutorial is explained:
- How to export the textures from Substance Painter so that they can be used in Blender.
- Create the material in Blender (Node setup for Principles Shader) with the nodes using the exported textures. Here the Node Wrangler addon is used which is a great help.
Also as a beginner you can easily follow along. Tightvnc viewer for mac os x.
Substance Painter Student
My question is does this workflow have you designing the 3d model in Blender and then doing all of your textures and PBR materials in Substance Painter? Is Blender used in this situation for any texturing or materials at all? What about Ambient Occlusion (which I have not done before and is also new to me)? UV Unwrapping? Is that part of Substance Painter? I'm kinda lost as to what the process is between these two software programs.
